At IIAT, we customize couples counseling as we help you learn to meet each other’s needs.

Because sometimes an hour per week is just not enough, we offer extended and intensive sessions. This can mean longer sessions or meeting several times per week. Intensive weekend sessions can be helpful if schedules are difficult due to work or travel. Frequency and duration of couples counseling is determined together.

Our experienced clinicians are also trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). EFT is generally a short-term (8-20 sessions) psychotherapeutic approach to working with couples that is empirically validated. 70-75% of couples move from distress to recovery and 90% show significant improvement in marital satisfaction. Based in Attachment Theory, EFT is a collaborative approach where the unhealthy relational patterns are identified as unsuccessful attempts to resolve conflict and maintain a secure bond with one’s partner. The goal of EFT is to expand and reorganize couples’ emotional responses and facilitate more authentic interactions to create a new more secure bond.
