Julie Fender is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and treating anxiety, depression, and adjustment issues with a Cognitive Behavioral approach. Her strength is her ability to create strong therapeutic relationships. You will find her to be very practical and authentic in the counseling process. She graduated from Miami University in 1989 with a degree in psychology and from Ohio University in 1991 with a Masters in Counseling in Business and Industry. This merging of psychology and business positioned her to manage an employee assistance program in Middletown, Ohio until 2003. She continues to do EAP work and corporate training and she maintains the Certified Employee Assistance Professional credential.
In 2002, Julie began overseeing the counseling ministry at Centerpointe Christian Church. This allowed her to integrate her clinical expertise and her faith by offering counseling from a Christian perspective. While there, she also taught seminars on marriage and family issues within the church and the community and facilitated groups in the areas of divorce and grief recovery.
Julie also started a private counseling practice in Mason, Ohio were she continued her clinical work with individuals and couples. While in private practice she also expanded her EAP work and corporate training by presenting on a wide variety of mental health, marriage and family, and health and wellness topics to include: stress management, balancing work and life, teambuilding, respect in the workplace, substance abuse, time management, communication, conflict resolution, smoking cessation, healthy lifestyles, parenting, healthy relationships, and boundaries in marriage, love and respect.
In 2010, Julie and her family relocated to Northern Virginia where she continued her professional career in private practice.
